There's nothing more frustrating....

than your pen running out mid project. :(

A dear friend recently got married and I wanted to make something special for her.  The original idea was to give it to her at her bridal shower but it wasn't ready in time so I gave it to her on her wedding day.

I thought this was the perfect time to try my hand at quilling.  After a few missteps, I got the hang of it and I'm SO pleased with the final result.

I decided on the words for "love" in both Hindi and Italian to represent the bride and groom. Between using Google search and asking friends, I was pretty confident I used the correct words (but I was still nervous).

I used my handy Fiskars paper cutter to cut the paper strips myself and just plain old Elmers glue (the clear kind) to attach the paper strips to the background.  Next time I would definitely use a sturdier backing but other than that, things went smoothly.

I received a text from the bride saying they loved it so much they hung it in their bedroom.  I'd say that makes this project a success!!

Now...what to quill next?!!?

99 cents worth of happiness

I was cleaning out my wallet and came across a MasterCard Gift Card. I figured there wasn't any money left on it but a quick check online confirmed there was a whole SIX dollars and change.

Yes, I said six dollars.

You wouldn't think that amount would be exciting but I find iPhone apps VERY exciting and fun!

So I chose a game or two and then came across this....

A photo booth app for your phone!!! doesn't take much to make me happy and excited.

A dear friend is getting married this weekend and I think there will be lots of fun opportunities to test it out.

For now...Molly is my test subject.

If you'd like to download it for your phone, you can buy it here: Pocketbooth

Gluten Free Bisquick

I was so so so excited to learn that Betty Crocker made gluten free Bisquick. That excitement quickly disappeared when I found out its not sold on Canada.

Since then, whenever a friend crosses the border they look for the elusive product and bring me back a box or two.

Yesterday as I was mourning the end of my last box I noticed something.

Clearly posted on the side of the box:

"Product of Canada"

Yup. Makes no sense to me either.

I carry your heart...

In an attempt to keep my creative muscles toned I'm trying to just create. I'm trying to not over think things and just "do".

This project started out with me super frustrated at the paint I used to the being annoyed I couldn't find my white paint pen.

I used a black sharpie for the lettering and then when I wasn't happy with how the black looked on the purple background I tried a silver pen.

It's not the favorite piece I've ever done but I'm happy that it continued to evolve the more I worked in it. I'm sure there's a lesson in there somewhere. ;)

Test - iPhone Blogger App

Maybe a two year break is what I needed since now I have an awesome camera on me at all times (I love you iPhone 4S) AND I can blog on the go with the Blogger app!!

So far, so good!

Testing the water

I can't believe its been almost two years since my last blog post.  I used to REALLY love it.  It was fun!  I love the interaction with other blog readers.  But sometimes life just gets in the way, doesn't it?

But in the interest of doing more things that make me happy I would really like to start up again.  I have projects in the works. And they're projects I'm proud of (so far).

On my birthday back in March I started a photo a day project (@withonel75 #me365 on Instagram) and I've been good with keeping up with it.  So I think I'm ready for another challenge, don't you think? we go!
